Which Film Is The Darkest?

I would have to say the Goblet of fire. Voldemorts return was "unexpected" (to some people). It was one of my favorite films too. I think dark=good.

I think Goblet of Fire was the darkest. The death eaters were much creepier in that one and it focused on the darkness in the book more than the other movies. I think HBP movie would have been darker if they hadn't added all the humor.

I would say that OotP was the darkest. It contained the most amount of dark and cruel behavior. Lets see:

-A mis-guided, fearful government trying to pin a Hogwarts students death on an accident and dis-credit the single person who was an eyewitness to the death and a denial of the return of the most feared dark wizard ever known.

-A minstry offical stationed at Hogwarts who takes pleasure in disciplining children violently and cruely under the claim of acting appropriatley, in order to maintan proper ministry approved education techniques.

-Mr. Weasley nearly killed, sirius is actually killed.

-Harrys dreams and mind being manipulated by Voldemort constantly

-Snapes memory, where Harry begins to question what kind of man his father was.

I saw the most Dark aspects in any one film thus far in this movie. HBP was close though.

Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince are by far the darkest.

Even though I didn't like OotP that much. It was totally different from the rest of the movies, and kinda boring.

I agree that OOTP is a much darker book - considering where Harry is in his head. I also found our introductions to the Longbottoms in the hospital ward very disturbing. But mostly this book is dark because of Umbridge.

However film wise I think GOF is darker. The scene is the graveyard is horrific and then the return scene is even more disturbing: Harry crying over Cedrics body, the band playing music and Fleur screaming, which is then followed by Brendan Gleeson and David Tennant both deranged, giving very believable performances.

I think GOF was the darkest film with the graveyard scene and the cold murder of crouch by his own son etc. also it showed ron's jealousy from harry

Either GoF or OotP. Those films weren't even really "dark". It just so happens that Voldemort is rising again in GoF and has regained his powers/followers in Order. They're both concerning Voldemort.


But between the two, I would go for GoF just because it's the first time I saw Voldemort rise again. That scene was so beautifully made. Ralph Fiennes was brilliant. I was really glued to my seat when that scene was on so yeah, GoF = darkest

I thought OotP was by far the darkest book, but both Gof and OotP werepretty dark as films.

Meh, I dont know about so far, but DH is going to be the darkest, and out of the two films, maybe the second one would be darker... =/

To me, there's no question, Order of the Phoenix is the darkest film of the series to date. Half-Blood Prince obviously has a lot of comedy and romantic angst to balance the moments of great sadness or hopelessness, and Goblet of Fire, although there are many unsettling moments and the entire third act keeps the viewer on edge, it's an adventure movie, plus there's the Yule Ball section, a great portrait of early adolescent awkwardness. Order of the PHoenix, though, has a cold, somber tone throughout, and it's the least "fun" of the bunch.

I think OOTP was the darkest. The whole movie is dark from the dementors to the Department of Mysteries.

I say Prisoner of Azkaban. While darker events happened in other movies, PoA actually looks darker. The whole movie seems to have a twilight cast over it. The music gives it a darker feel as well.

I'd go Goblet of Fire myself. The entire thing felt really dark, both in the lighting and in the themes. However, had there not been the humor, Half Blood Prince was dark as well. Somehow I felt that in the two more recent films (OotP and HBP), there was a better balance between light and dark, even if there was more than in GoF.

THBP was so dark it was practically in black and white.
