I liked the music in the first couple but GoF is way off the mark. My only peeve is when they change things when it wouldn't have cost any extra money or time to keep it to the book.

The thing that bugs me the most about the movies as a whole, though, is the fact that they took out the Quidditch Cup in PoA and the ending, and the whole Harry seeing Peter on the map. Other than that, I thought it was a bit dissapointing, but I have learned to appriciate it for what it is, and I think that they did a good job on the time-travel part.

My one pet peeve: Hermione is much too different if the moives. Okay, I undersatnd that they're all growing up and everything but really. Hermione should be more Hemione-ish. Other than Lupin's moustache has to go.

It's a small thing, but because it happened at the beginning of PoA, it distracted me and kind of ruined the first viewing of the film for me. Harry using magic to try to read under the covers, when no such thing happened, really bothered me. I wondered how they were going to address that issue come OotP. I also did not like the crying or that sad excuse of an ending.
A lot of people rave about how great Cuaron is, but I don't see it. I like the film much better now, but only because I have made an effort to take it on its own terms and forget that it's supposed to be based on the book PoA. I also don't like how they seem to think they have to "dumb down" the films and add all that cheesy stuff that doesn't work. No self-respecting 5 year old would think some of that stuff is funny, let alone anyone older. However, I do make the effort to forget the books & watch the film for its own value...until they do something really stupid. ![]() |

Of course, some see you as a goodie-two-shoes. But hey, it's true! You're really good at winning, and normally always come out as the hero. Everybody likes you.. except, maybe, the Slytherins. You're too perfect. No, really.. You're too perfect. It's annoying to watch you win, repeatedly. Oh well. Be proud anyway. Last edited by Dumbley_dorr; October 26th, 2005 at 5:18 pm. |

WILL YOU PEOPLE STOP COMPLAININGF ABOUT THE NEW DUMBLEDORE!!!! RICHARD HARRIS IS DEAD!!!
and i know all of you were pushing for Ian McKellen, but seriously, he's just finished being a kindly, old, protective, yet immensly powerful wizard in grey (mostly white but still) in consectutive sequels ONLY TWO YEARS AGO! and Gambon really is a great actor...he's more subtle and Harris didn't really capture the slight loonyness of JK's Dumbledore.

![]() I think that you can safely say that both Harris and Gambon portrayed Dumbledore well, but in different ways. It can never be easy having to fill someone else's role, and I think Gambon does the job well, though not quite to my taste. I wouldn't say that Gambon is more subtle, yet I agree with you when you say he portrays Dumbledore's more eccentric side. Oh, just to add fuel to the fire, Harris's accent was better ![]()

I will say, though that the scene in Dumbledore's office near the end of Chamber of Secrets was fantastic. The way Harris used his eyes was incredible. I know so many of you are complaining that Gambon wont be able to shut up and be quiet in some of the longer, emotional scenes in movies 6 + 7 is completely irrelevant. Just because he is loud and energetic in the one scene that we have actually glimpsed from Goblet of Fire doesn't cancel out his calm, warm acting that we see in Prizoner of Azkaban. We know that Gambon can act! We've seen it in POA!
He's been knighted Lets just calm down and see what happens because, as you know, we get to see a whole lot more of Dumbledore in movies to come.

Gambon is a fabulous actor. I think they were lucky to get him. I loved Harris & miss his DD, but I'm not unhappy with Gambon.
Another thing I don't understand is the costume color choices. In the books, they are described as colorful and eclectic. Yet the first three films have everyone mostly in dark or bland colors...so far anyway. I was disappointed in that. However, it looks like GoF may be breaking that pattern hopefully. ![]() |
