A quick question, what is the difference between Professors and Prefects? Obviously one has more seniority than the other, but I was wondering what that represented?

Wasn't there a difference between Prefects and Prefect Moderators once, with prefect Mods having more powers in certain areas?

The difference is still there, but the difference in title was removed (Moderators no longer have "Prefect Moderator" as a user title, but they retained the power...muahahaha!).

Ah, thanks! But wasn't this difference visible in the past by going with the mouse over the name? It's not essential for my well-being but it would be nice to know whether I am hallucinating or not.

Cos promotes proper English. There were problems in the past with people deliberately misspelling "the".

You can still see the difference when going to for example to Divination Studies which will show in the right corner below who the moderators are in that forum aka who are the prefects that can close threads.

You can find them in CosArchive though it appears to be down right now. I'd rec you have a look on really old threads when OotP was just published. Namely threads 2 till 15 though really nice theories were posted later on as well just don't mind the snarkiness though.

Isn't "Prefect" a bit junior now that we underlings can be Grand Sorcerers and Supreme Mugwumps? Even Qualified Teacher of Magic sounds more senior than Prefect!

I was also wondering whether anyone actually wants to become The Next Great Adventurer. Is this some ploy to get rid of those irritating members who post too much? Do we get vapourised as we hit Post for the 15000th time?
