Thanks! I was going through some of those threads (Meesha told me I can find them in the History of Magic Reference Books section), and it is pretty interesting to read through shipping debates...but man, are they long. Over fifty versions...talk about the most pursued topic around here...

And, about the snarkiness, I don't really mind. It seems to crop up whenever 'ship' is mentioned. But I agree, some of the theories were very well-presented. And thank God for good moderators...it's much better to read through civilised discussions...(if you know what I mean)

As someone who debated in those threads frequently, I have to agree. That is one of the reasons that I love COS forums - the mods are excellent and really stay on top of things. The one I saw most often on the Love Thread was lani - he deserves a round of applause for keeping that thread civil! Not to mention his posts - so funny.

When you say post-count boosting, what exactly qualifies as that. Do you mean doing something like this:

Hi, cool!

That's exactly what it is. Posts that have no thought at all. Just two-worders. Now sometimes something like:

"I think that Dumbledore is still alive"

wouldn't be considered post-boosting, but the staff LOVES when your posts have a lot of thought.

It's not a question about how many words in a singular post. I'ts about frequently posting without contributing anything to the discussion.

Drat, I think word count is more important than post count - maybe you could measure the length of posts, as they do in the books - the number of inches of parchment? Of course, you wouldn't count the posts when people quote something really long and then write, "I agree."

Personally, I often skim or skip very long posts - I just don't have the patience to read three or four paragraphs of rebuttle or complicated theory. Most good posts are at least a paragraph, but a thought provoking sentence or two can add a lot to the conversation.

Unfortunately, sometimes a long post is unavoidable - especially with the new feature of posts automatically being merged. If you have 10 people who replied to you and you reply back and nobody posts in between - you end up with what appears to be a really long post because all 10 replies were merged.

I feel as if my posts are getting shorter and shorter all the time. After 1000 days it just seems too much like work sometimes.

But I do appreciate it when people try to respond to more than one post, even if it gets long.
