OK, so I (with help from Arry Grotter ) have agreed to take over the duties of updating the HBP list every month

For all that don’t know MasterOfDeath usually does a list of everything we know so far every 21st of every month until November comes.

Well, last month he turned the task over to me. Unfortunately, I was out of town so ArryGrotter filled in for me.

Anyways, I'll stop babbling now, here it is:


Welcome to the 6th edition of the HBP list! Another month gone and we are now closer and closer than ever before to this exciting event; We are now at the 3 month mark in the countdown for this highly anticipated film and it is time for another update to the list. This list compiles everything we've heard about the film thus far from official announcements to set leaks to news stories to rumors. Please note that it is still very early and there are still many things unknown. This list is a tribute to all the good times we've had in this thread and all the good friends we've made over the past 10 months and all the great discussions. This list is so we can have a reference and keep track of all the news in one place.

Filmmakers Comments:

- David Yates: One thing we said when we finished "Order of the Phoenix" was that we want a very different experience next time around. We're very proud of this film, the intensity, the emotion and everything. One of the great things Jo Rowling does in the book is that she captures stages of childhood so the next stage of childhood is a bit more sex, drugs and rock and roll.

- Yates: It's about the kind of emotional and sexual politics of being a teenager. It's a very different swing, the next film. I think it needs to be for the series to keep evolving. In my work, every choice I've made I've always gone for something in the neurotically opposite direction. Once I've finished something, I've stayed keen to stay fresh as a story teller to try something different. The "Potter" world is so rich. They're so many things to play with in that world that it's possible to regear so the next one will be very different I think.

- Yates: We'd be crazy not to take a look at the seventh book and not let us influence us as we're refining the sixth script. I think there may be things that could be really helpful so we'll be looking at it as soon as it comes out.

- Daniel Radcliffe: Dan wants new Potter film to be best yet. "I'm not going to be on autopilot. I've invested so much. We all want to make this film better than the last."

1. The Other Minister

-We will see the Millennium bridge collapse as part of a ‘big attack’

- Yates has mentioned in an interview that he is trying to fit Scrimgeour into the script, that he is in one day and out the next. He has stated if he does have Scrimgeour he will most likely be played by Bill Nighy.

- There is also a rumor that Yates now wants Scrimgeour to be a Suprise for the fans and that Bill Nighy has asked to be uncredited

-Actress Teresa Mahoney will be playing a new character who did not appear in the book, Sofie (Boardroom -Opening Scene).” While we had heard rumors that the opening scene with the Other Minister was to be cut, we are uncertain as to what this may mean

2. Spinner’s End

- Yates has commented about how great it is going to be to work with Kloves on Snape's ambiguity in the script.

-Alan Rickman has been re-cast as Severus Snape and has already begun filming. He has commented that he refuses to talk about his character because he would not want to spoil the story.

- Timothy Spall has been re-cast as Peter Pettigrew and will appear in the scene.

- Helen McCrory has been cast as Narcissa Malfoy

- Helena Bonham Carter has been re-cast as Bellatrix Lestrange.

3. Will and Won't

- Richard Griffiths who plays Uncle Vernon in the films has confirmed that he is cut from HBP.

- However, Fiona Shaw (Petunia Dursley) is credited to be in HBP on IMDB.

- This seems to give credibility to comments made by an “inside source” on TLC:

…also, Richard Griffiths won’t be appearing in HBP. The second scene in the current cut has only Petunia, Harry & Dumbledore. Harry Melling did film some takes, but his character is, for now, off-screen. We’re also going to get a slightly “lengthier” (more explanation of past) scene between the three of ‘em. (as of now). The first scene is at Spinner’s End. Can’t say whether any part/element of The Other Minister will be in. The titling work is still ways off, considering the number of key frames still being rendered at Double Negative. And we must keep some things quiet, for suspense, eg?

- No word about Kreacher but they are making a HBP toy line where Kreacher is one of the characters to be made into a doll and even says a line that might be from HBP: "Mistress is happy the scum has finally left her house." So he might be in the film.

- Dumbledore's withered hand has been confirmed. Jo Rowling got chills when she saw Gambon with the green screen glove on.

4. Horace Slughorn

- Jim Broadbent has been cast as Horace Slughorn. He has only read the sixth book in preparation for his role as the new potions master.

- The scenes at and inside Slughorn's house have all already been filmed. They have recreated the entire village of Budliegh Babberton from the book including the old war memorial. There is a store called: Babberton Arms in the background.

-Gambon has been camping it up on set and word got out that they filmed Dumbledore saying the "I do love knitting patterns' line.

- Nina Voelker, who was cast in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, explains what significance her original character, Wendy Slinkhard, plays in the film:

Only a very small role, Slinkhard Wendy is a former student of Professor Slughorn's and is now a published author, so I was in a picture with Professor Slughorn, played by Jim Broadbent, which I will dedicate in my book. This picture might be in Slughorn's house.

-Slughorn will shout "Alright! Alright" I'll take the job!" as Harry and Dumbledore leave his house like in the book.

- Yates said there was a comical scene where someone goes to draw the drapes and the entire curtain falls. This might be part of the scene in Slughorn's house.

- Regulus Black has been casted and will appear in a picture in Slughorn's house or office

5. An Excess of Phlegm

- Fleur Delacor has been cut. It can be assumed also that Bill has been cut too.

- The Burrow is confirmed as in the movie.

- Julie Walters has been re-cast as Mrs. Weasley and Mark Williams has been re-cast as Mr. Weasley.

- A scene in Ron's bedroom has been filmed and a picture of this scene has been leaked.

- A picture of Harry and Ginny has emerged online. It is most likely to take place when Harry arrives at the Burrow.

6. Draco's Detour

Diagon Alley will be seen again and Ollivander's has been destroyed:

We walked around Diagon Alley. Ollivanders had been destroyed, all the windows were smashed and it was trashed. The shops had complete interiors in case the camera caught a glimpse inside by accident. Quality Quidditch supplies had a Quidditch equipment display, uniforms on dummies and drawers full of clothing. Florean Fortescue's had fake ice cream sundaes lining the walls on shelves. Florish and Blotts had hundreds of books inside the doorway piled up and on shelves. The large books in the windows are actually Watford phone directories covered!

WWW Joke Shop is in the Movie!!!:

But WWW stood out in bright orange with a curved front door. It was the most wonderful place. It was like every dream you had as a kid. There were skiving snack boxes, puking pastels, U-no-poo, sweets from floor to ceiling. It had a set of stairs winding up the middle and was three floors high. The detail was amazing; the shelves were crooked with brightly coloured goods on every surface. It was truly breath taking. At the end of our tour we watched them filming a scene there. When you see the scene where Fred and George are talking to Ron on the stairs, he asks how much for an item, they say '5 galleons', Ron says 'but I'm your brother' and they say '10 galleons'. Well I am standing behind the stairs (out of sight) by the door! It took eight takes just for that few seconds and I was told they only complete 2 minutes of film a day

Borgin & Burke's will be in the film and there will be WANTED Posters of Bella and the Carrows in Knockturn Alley:

We saw Knockturn Alley but the lights weren't on so it was by torch light! Saw Borgin and Burkes that way. The vanishing cabinet was in the centre, it was dark wood with a slanted roof. There were lots of skulls and creepy looking objects – even creepier due to the lack of lighting. There were wanted posters on the alley walls for Bellatrix and the Carrows.

7. The Slug Club

- Shots of the Hogwarts train traveling to Hogwarts have been filmed.

- Marcus Belby, Blaise Zabini and Cormac Mclaggen all members of the Slug Club have been cast.

- Actor Guy Mannerings, who had been listed as a cast member for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, clarifies who he portrays, mentions the fact that he was also cast in Goblet of Fire, and describes the atmosphere on set:

In regards to the role I have, I am no longer part of Tom Riddle's cohort, but am one of the members of Slughorn's Slugclub. (Slughorn is being played by the fantastic actor, Jim Broadbent.)

- The HBP sneak peaks on the OOTP DVD has confirmed the scene where Harry is spying on the Slytherins in their compartment under the cloak and then where Draco freezes Harry on the train and covers him with his cloak is confirmed.

8. Snape Victorious

- It seems we will see the Hogwarts Gates for the 1st time, due to a comment from the set report:

We were shown the Hogwarts gates; they are in a small clump of trees with the tops lopped off and have blue screen on each side (blue instead of green because of the trees and grass). The spikes on the gate are made of rubber for health and safety reasons! There are huge carved griffins on top of the gate columns. They said the GCI will be added later with Hogwarts castle on one side and the trees will be repeated to make the Forbidden forest.

- Nat Tena (Tonk) has stated she is only in ONE scene (Burrow Attack) so it appears her role in rescuing Harry has been changed

9. The Half-Blood Prince

- The scene where McGonagall goes through the great hall handing out course schedules/Harry decides to continue potions has been filmed.

10. The House of Gaunt

-There will be a scene where the trio sit around the common room and discuss the Prince's book with a bowl of walnuts on the sofa.

- At the U.S. OOTP premiere at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, director David Yates told us that they are currently working on paring down the many memories in Half-Blood Prince to a workable film format:

"We're making a decision right now to compress those a wee bit, but we've still got some really cool ones. We've got, you know, the wonderful thing is seeing Riddle as a child, which is really scary, and I've found a really interesting kid to play Riddle. I can't tell you who it is yet -- it's early days."

Producer David Heyman later expanded on Yates's comments:

"There will be memories, but not as many as there are in the book." When I asked which ones they're cutting, he said, "I can't say that yet because it's still a work in progress. We haven't locked up the script yet."

11. Hermione's Helping Hand

- Ron will play as keeper.

- Cormac McLaggen is in the film so he might tryout for the team too, like in the book. He is portrayed by model/actor Freddie Stroma.

- Plans may have changed, but it appears the Aragog storyline will be in the film, based on a statement made during pre-production:

...as for Dudman's assignments, "A lot of it is up in the air, but we know we'll have a giant dead spider to produce."

- It appears the Quidditch Tryouts will be included in HBP, based on Devon Murray's (Seamus) comments:

- Devon says that he's hardly in Half-Blood Prince, but still has a bit of fun (says Seamus is the stupidest wizard in all of Hogwarts, in his opinion); there might be some pyromania with his character and he mentions Seamus trying out for Quidditch trials in the sixth film and doing a bad job at flying.

- Tryouts can now be confirmed, due to an official pic

12. Silver and Opals

- Katie Bell and her friend Leanne were cast

- Katie Bell will remain the recipient of the necklace as opposed to Cho Chang, which was previously rumoured

There were mannequins of Katie Bell when she had been hexed, one life size and one smaller for when Hagrid is holding her. She was wearing a red scarf and red coat. The hair on its head was real and the girl I was with knew the actress and was quite shocked because it looked so life like lying there...

13. The Secret Riddle

This is because the neighbours complained that the light was reflecting off them and that they were ugly.

Oh, you are so right. That photo is the exact one that was posted several threads ago, except with helen mccrory's face instead of claire dane's! That is so upsetting that people would go to such great lengths to produce fake photos. I remember thinking that the photo looked a bit strange-that the body did not seem to match the face in agewise, but I was just so excited to see anything from HBP. Well, hopefully we won't see any more pics unless their official ones.

Thanks for the updated list LC! I am excited for the movie. The only thing I didn't like was how Harry finds out about the horcruxes. I liked the way he found out in the book- thru a series of lessons with dumbledore. However, I guess since they decided to edit out some of the memories having Harry touch the ring and have a sudden flash of the horcruxes is a decent alternative. I just prefer the way JKR had written it originally.

I think that picture of Slughorn and Harry looks like it could be from Slughorn's house, when Harry is pursuading him to come and teach at Hogwarts. Harry is dressed in muggle clothing (rather nice muggle clothing, too). I don't think Harry would have dressed like that to go to Dumbledore's office to view a memory, but it seems more likely that he would wear something like that after spending a few days at his Aunt and Uncle's and then going on important business with Dumbledore.

I think it is plausible, but I think Harry wouldn't be so far away if this was the scene.

It's definately not as the room is too large and doesn't match what we can see from the sneak peek.

There are other ways to introduce the elements from those memories without having a lengthy memory scene...

That's very interesting. Having seen Delbonnel's other works, I'm sure he can invent some amazing shots. I just hope Yates and Mark Day won't edit that out.

If the long-take really contains no cast member, I think it may be an opening shot of Hogsmeade scene. Probably a shot to show the season change like in POA. The camera pans from Hogwarts ground (during autumn), moves along the bridge as the snow starts falling, then stops at the Three Broomsticks (during winter).

Based on this excerpt, it looks like it will be a lot easier for movie Harry to figure out what the horcruxes are than it was for book Harry. He touches the ring- and boom- he gets to see what all the horcruxes are.
